Our March 2001 report, From Chaos to Order - Making Sense of Waiting Lists in Canada, recommended that implementation of the WCWL waitlist prioritization tools by health authorities should occur in a carefully monitored and evaluated environment. The ideal assessment would include validity, reliability, feasibility, acceptability, and benefits to patients. Furthermore, these findings should be communicated broadly.

Subsequently, implementation of the tools has advanced in a number of Western Canadian provinces and in other countries. The role of the WCWL project in this area is to develop a framework for evaluation that would be included in any implementation plan, assist in conducting the evaluation, and serve as a focal point for reform in improving access to elective health care.

Accordingly, this part of the website provides a brief description of the evaluation plan and indicates where, in Western Canada, the tools are being utilized.
